Buttermilk Biscuits

recipe nr 1
INGREDIENTS
4 cups self-rising faina
1 lingurita de zahar
1 lingurita praf de copt
2/3 cup untura
2 cups buttermilk (lapte batut)
2 linguri buttermilk, for brushing

DIRECTIONS
Incalzeste cuptorul la 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Lightly grease a baking sheet.
Intr-un bol mare, amesteca impreuna faina,zaharul si praful de copt .

Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in 2 cups buttermilk, mixing just enough for dough to come together.
Roll dough out until 1 inch thick. Cut into rounds with a biscuit cutter. Asezam biscuiti intr-o tava mare. Unge biscuiti cu 2 linguri de lapte batut..
Pune la cuptor pentru 15 minutes, pina prinde o culoare galbuie.

INGREDIENTS
2 cups self-rising flour
1/4 cup white sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup shortening
2/3 cup heavy cream
1 cup buttermilk
1 tablespoon butter, melted

DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Lightly grease one baking sheet.
In a large bowl, mix together flour, sugar and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal. Stir in cream and buttermilk until dough resembles cottage cheese.
Generously sprinkle a smooth surface with flour.
Spoon out batter into four lumps spaced well apart on the floured surface. Flour the top of the dough and your hands. Turn dough balls in the flour, shake off excess flour and place on prepared pan.
Bake in preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes, or until lightly browned. Remove from oven, brush with melted butter and serve.

INGREDIENTS
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/3 cup shortening
3/4 cup buttermilk

DIRECTIONS
In a large bowl, combine the dry ingredients. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in buttermilk just until moistened. Turn onto a lightly floured surface. Roll to 1/2-in. thickness; cut with a floured 2-1/2-in. biscuit cutter. Place 1 in. apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 450 degrees F for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm.
